History
Discover the place where the United States gained its independence as you explore the site of the last major battle of the Revolutionary War. Here at Yorktown, in the fall of 1781, Gen. George Washington, with allied American and French forces, besieged Gen. Charles Cornwallis’ British Army, effectively ending the war.

Dock your boat at our public pier to take advantage of our beautiful beaches and restaurants, or let us do the steering for you. Depending on the season, you can book a romantic sunset sail or a pirate adventure cruise aboard the Schooner Alliance. Paddleboards and kayaks are also available for rent from Patriot Tours & Provisions, to explore the river at your own pace.

Whether you’re a hiker, biker, kayaker, paddle boarder, or beach lover—Yorktown is your outdoor recreation destination. Our mile-long pedestrian Riverwalk is the perfect place for casual strolling.
