About York River State Park
York River State Park is a 2,531-acre park situated along the York River. The park features an estuarine environment with both freshwater and saltwater marine and plant life. York River State Park’s land has been a treasure trove for fossil beds, as well as Colonial and Native American artifacts. There are also trails for hiking, biking and horses and even more to see and do on the water.
Things to Do at York River State Park
York River State Park Trails
York River State Park features over 30 miles of trails for several activities. These trails will take you through the park’s natural and diverse landscapes. There are nine multi-use trials. Five trails, including the first five miles of the John Blair Trail, are designated for mountain biking. Hikers can experience varying elevations and terrain on York River State Park’s hiking trails. While York River State Park does not have horses on site, guests can bring their own for the five bridle trails within the park.

Fishing and Boating at York River State Park
The York River is designated as a Chesapeake Bay National Estuarine Research Reserve. Explore the serene waterways in a kayak or canoe. Rent a paddleboat, jon boat, canoe or kayak to take out on the water. York River State Park offers canoe trips on the Taskinas Creek. Cast a line at York River State Park, with a valid Virginia fishing license. There are three designated fishing areas within the park. In the freshwater Woodstock Pond, reel in bluegill and largemouth bass. The York River boasts catfish, spot, croaker, striper and crabs. There is also a 360-foot fishing pier where a saltwater fishing license is not required.

Entrance Fees
It costs $5 per vehicle to enter York River State Park. High occupancy vehicles cost $13.
