Things to Do this Fall in Williamsburg

Here are some of our favorite fall activities and events in Williamsburg.

Attend a Fall Festival

From September through November, fall festivals will pop up all around the Greater Williamsburg area. From Williamsburg to Yorktown and Jamestown, these festivals can involve your favorite fall activities, including pumpkin picking, trick-or-treating, sipping cider and more. Or, get a taste of Williamsburg’s local wine, beer and food at one of these festivals.

Pick Your Own Pumpkin

When you visit Williamsburg and nearby Yorktown, be sure to visit one of the local farmers markets. Throughout the year, you can browse and pick your own locally grown fruits and vegetables to take home or back to your hotel. During fall, pick out a pumpkin for carving to baking into a delicious pumpkin pie.

Have Frightening Fun

Whether you prefer tricks or treats, the Halloween season offers plenty to do in Williamsburg. Take part in family-friendly frights or a more chilling experience. Busch Gardens offers both through the month of October. Or, join one of Colonial Williamsburg’s Halloween-themed tours to discover Williamsburg’s haunted history.

Celebrate a Colonial Thanksgiving

The Greater Williamsburg area celebrates Thanksgiving in a special way that the whole family is sure to enjoy.

On Nov. 3, 2024, Berkeley Plantation will celebrate the First English speaking Thanksgiving in the New World. Spend the day enjoying activities and entertainment, including a living history program, tribal dancers, arts, crafts, jewelry and food vendors, a reenactment of the landing of Captain Woodlief and more.

Jamestown Settlement and the American Revolution Museum at Yorktown will each host a special event for the Foods and Feasts of Colonial Virginia. There, you can learn how food was prepared and preserved by the Powhatan Indians and British colonists, along with the typical food a Revolutionary War soldier would eat.

Explore the Great Outdoors

Williamsburg has several scenic locales that are great for outdoor exploration. From exploring the local parks, kayaking the waterways of the York River or biking down the Colonial Parkway, there are a number of outdoor experiences to have in the Historic Triangle.
