Yorktown Market Days is honoring the local farmers who work hard to provide homegrown products each week. A crop of activities are planned to celebrate National Farmers Market Week from 8 a.m. to 12 p.m. August 5 and 12 in Historic Yorktown.

Our unique, award-winning farmers market features family-owned and operated farms selling their products at Riverwalk Landing on Saturdays during the summer. Shoppers are bound to find their regular favorites, as well as new varieties of fruits, vegetables, and pasture-raised meats. Items from these farms go through just two hands—the farmer and customer—before reaching the plate.

The second week in August recognizes the vital impact farmers markets play in the nation’s food system—by preserving farmland through economic viability, promoting sustainability, and supporting healthy communities.

Yorktown Market Days is a one-stop shop for seasonal produce; farm meats and seafood; fresh poultry and eggs; artisan bread and made-from-scratch desserts; honey, jams, and sauces; flowers, plants, and herbs; coffee, tea, fresh-pressed juices, and wine; unique local art; and even gourmet dog treats.

More than 40 local vendors will set up their tables along the beautiful York River during the special markets on August 5 and 12. Families can play lawn games (on the grassy area across from Water Street Grille) and pick up free “I Love Farmers Markets” temporary tattoos, stickers, and coloring sheets for the kids at the Visit Yorktown booth. Guests will also be able to plant seeds in biodegradable starter pods courtesy of Yorktown Feed Seed N’ More.

Both dates will feature a performance from the Fifes and Drums of York Town at 10 a.m. Local musicians Lana Puckett and Kim Person (August 5) and Richie Beard (August 12) will provide live entertainment from 9 a.m. to 12 p.m. on the Riverwalk Landing Stage. Local personal chef Taylor Duncan will give a cooking demonstration from 9 to 11 a.m. on August 12.

Yorktown Market Days wants to ensure everyone has access to fresh, healthy foods. That’s why the markets participates in SNAP, a program that offers discounts to low-income families, making farm-fresh foods more accessible.

Yorktown Market Days has been serving the area for 16 years and has grown to include 31 Saturday markets in the 2023 season. There are still many themed markets to look forward to during the fall and holiday seasons. Mark your calendars for the First Responders Market, Fall Festival, Maritime Festival, Paws at the River, Harvest Festival, and Mistletoe Market. Dates and details can be found at www.yorktownmarketdays.com.

There is no charge to attend the market and it is held rain or shine. Free parking is available in several designated public parking lots throughout Historic Yorktown and the complimentary, wheelchair-accessible, Yorktown Trolley runs from 10 a.m. to 5:30 p.m. with several convenient stops around town.
