Amiraj Revolutionizes Indian Dining
By Emily Mook
Since it opened in September 2020, modern Indian kitchen Amiraj has been making a name for itself as a Williamsburg staple that strikes an exemplary balance between tradition and innovation.
The restaurant, which was founded by Ashok Arora, offers a comprehensive dining experience with a myriad of imaginative and flavorful options. “I like to pitch us as an Indian restaurant that celebrates creativity,” says Nitesh Arora, general manager of Amiraj. “We also do a great job at pairing wines with our food.”
In fact, Amiraj is the only family-owned restaurant in Williamsburg that has won a Wine Spectator Magazine Award of Excellence. The restaurant secured the award last year.
Amiraj boasts an extensive wine collection featuring over 170 wines from around the world. “All of our wines are food-friendly,” Arora says. “One of my personal favorites is the Wolfberger Crémant d’Alsace Brut Rosé from France.”
The knowledgeable and friendly staff is on hand to help guests pair their wine selections with a wide array of delectable dishes.
Among Amiraj’s most popular entrees is the delicious Crab-Scallop Nilgiri, which combines a coconut milk and mustard seed sauce with simmered crab meat and seared scallops on top. “We like to use locally-sourced ingredients, so the scallops are often from the Outer Banks,” notes Arora.
Whether you call Williamsburg home or are just passing through, Amiraj is sure to provide you with a meaningful dining experience that you won’t soon forget. “If I have a dozen tables and they all end up having memorable experiences, I feel like I’ve succeeded more than if I have a hundred tables and they all leave within 30 minutes,” Arora says. “We take pleasure in seeing people savor the spice and creativity we offer.”
