Auditions Information:
For auditions please prepare 32 measures (approximately 1-2 minutes) of music from a Broadway musical. Please bring sheet music to the audition, an accompanist will be provided. The song does not have to be from the show, but it should show off your voice in the best possible way. After singing auditions, there will be a movement audition (fear not, not everyone has to dance in this show, but we would like to see your ability to move onstage).
Characters:
Seymour
Tenor – playing age mid-twenties, ethnicity – any
Young looking, insecure, naïve, put upon. Florist, clerk, hero. Above all he is a sweet well meaning man. He is not a silly prat falling nerd.
Strong acting and singing, vocal range G4 down to A2

Baritone, late 20s-early 40s. Ethnicity any
A tall dark handsome dentist with a black leather jacket and sadistic tendencies. Makes a couple of brief but high impact appearances. Must have a maniacal laugh.

Voice of the Puppet
Male or female, must have strong voice.
Provided by an actor on an offstage microphone. Think of the voice as that of a street smart, funky, conniving villain lip-syncing to the movements of the puppet.

Crystal, Ronnette and Chiffon
Mezzo sopranos playing look to late 20s. Ethnicity, African American preferred.
Three street smart urchins who function as participants in the action and a Greek chorus outside of it. They are young, hip, smart and the only people in the whole cast who really know what’s going on. In their Greek chorus capacity, they occasionally sing to the audience directly. When they do, it’s often with a secret smile that says, “We know something you don’t know.”
Strong harmony singing, with good movement skills to perform tightly controlled choreographed movement. Significant presence in the show with 5-6 songs, vocal range F5 down to Ab3.
